At PLBH, we are about results, no matter how long it takes to achieve them. Our recent win for our clients against corporate goliath Southern California Edison Company is a testament to our 110% devotion to our clients, securing our two clients $464.5 million in damages for the harassment and/or retaliation they faced after 5 intense years of litigation – the largest damages award in the history of the United States of America for an employment case.

The background of the case

PLBH sued Southern California Edison Company in 2017 on behalf of our two plaintiffs, alleging harassment and retaliation. Our Plaintiffs’ lawsuit claimed that, at Edison’s South Bay service center, they witnessed the most heinous sexually and racially abusive words and actions imaginable, which had been nurtured by years of looking the other way and cover-ups.

Our plaintiffs submitted separate complaints to Edison within weeks of each other, hoping that Edison would finally put an end to it all. Rather than expressing gratitude to our Plaintiffs for their bravery in coming forward, Edison just wanted to defend itself and downplay the harm it had caused.

Unprotected, one Plaintiff would never work for Edison again. What about our other Plaintiff? After a perfect 16-year career, Edison fired him merely two months after submitting his complaint based on clearly bogus and manufactured reasons.

The verdict

After five years of hard litigation and a two-month jury trial, a Los Angeles County jury found Edison to be precisely who we claimed it to be – a corporation that had lost its way, punishing employees like our two Plaintiffs who would stand up for what is right rather than protecting them.

In June 2022, the jury awarded our two Plaintiffs a total of $464,500,000 in compensatory and punitive damages, making it the biggest employment-related civil award in U.S. history.
